Over 130 movies have been filmed on this working movie ranch (located just south of Santa Fe) since 1954, including The Man From Laramie (1955) with James Stewart, Cowboy (1958) with Jack Lemmon, Silverado (1985), Young Guns (1988), and more recently Cowboys & Aliens (2011), and A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014).
We got a personal tour of the movie town by old Western actor Jack Caffrey, whose claim to fame was Lonesome Dove (1989) with Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall. No one else was around for miles. Nothing but sunshine and silence.
The windmill, livery and church was all built last year for A Million Ways To Die In The West, and kept up. The saloon has had dozens of films shot inside, always re-dressed for the specific era the production is trying to capture.
